Jason Rubero: Music

Active Joy (2010)

(Jason Rubero)
July 12, 2010

Some of the best lyrics I've ever written, I think.  Really proud of this one, with all it's mellow 'Floyd-ism' and layers of sonic texture.

This song is dedicated to the late, great Sparklehorse.  R.I.P. Mr. Linkous.

Another day is over, leeched and bleeding on the morrow

Do you realize?

Another year is over, iced and barren it's time frozen

Do you realize?

Bittersweet and providential

I'm holding on to active joy

Clutching beyond what has been given

Let it go

Let it go

Another moment leaving, drained and distant, still receding

Do you realize?

Another memory fading, far off now but still we're chasing

Do you realize?

Time, a speeding round in slowest motion

Muzzle flash is all I seem to know

Grasping for dry land amidst the ocean

Let it go

Let it go

Another month is waning, ebb and flow are knives in waiting

Do you realize?

Another rusting resolution, piled in the corner of no solutions

Do you realize?

Time's the fire in which we're burning

But, can we glow amidst the flames

With the sorrow that cannot be touched

Comes a joy that cannot be named

Yesterday is disappearing

Yet, I am tethered to its smoke

Reach for the clarity that time is smearing

Let it go

Let it go

Let it go

Let it go
