A little bit of country rock. I took a shot at this song many years ago but could never seem to get it working until I tried a new approach in 2020.

I like the guitar harmonies in the solo, the subtle use of organ, and the layers (FOUR!) of vocal harmonies in the chorus.

Had to name drop Doug Sahm at the end because a growing appreciation for roots-music was the primary influence for this tune. Other influences include Wilco, Gram Parsons, and CSNY.

Lyrics

If I disappear
Don’t look for me, dear
Well honey I’m gone
So so long
While the world burns to the ground
I’ll still be here, I’ll stick around
Well honey you know its true

Even though it’s complicated
We’re doing fine
But I’m running out of luck
And baby we’re running out of time

If I disappear from view
You don’t see me, or maybe you
You don’t even look
Is that a sinking line or a hook?

If you can’t see for the clouds
Well I’m thinking right out loud
Echoes of a song
It might be Blake, or maybe Doug Sahm?

Even though it’s complicated
We’re doing fine
But I’m running out of luck
And baby we’re running out of time
