I've always liked the mood and chords of this song. It is dark and complex, but lush and melodic at the same time. This harkens back to that sweet time when I was doing music 100% for my own enjoyment, before I started taking it more seriously.
I like the dreamy chorus effect on the vocals, along with the organ put through my new wah-wah pedal and, finally, the vibe-rich old-school drum machine sound.
I made the cymbal swells by turning the volume on the keyboard up as my fingers rapidly played a sample on my $49 pawn-shop keyboard. Sometimes, somehow, the best effects are those you have to create in spite of severe limitations...
Written and recorded in a tiny studio apartment in Boise, Idaho while fulfilling a summer internship in semiconductor engineering at Micron.
