  1. Hush

Bit of a Bruce Cockburn / Bob Dylan thing goin' on here.

This song, recorded on 4-track reel-to-reel, is notable for the following reasons:
1) Some pretty decent vocal harmonies, if I do say so myself.
2) Some interesting Biblical imagery
3) I used an acoustic guitar for the reverb!  I didn't own a real reverb unit for another 4 or 5 years, so in this song I dedicated a track to recording my voice through the sound hole (resonant chamber) of my acoustic guitar as the strings experienced sympathetic vibration.

I'm proud of this rough, austere little gem. It is humble, yet still holds together after all these years. It has a type of.... 'soul'.

Lyrics

Hush little baby, don't say a word
Don't pay no mind to this spiraling world
Everything's gonna work out fine
Temporal things disappear like a line
In the sand

Hush little darling, don't shed a tear
Big poppa's gonna take you
So far from here
Take you to a place where it's clear to see
Just exactly what you mean to me
And him

Hush now little child
There's no need to cry
The spirit rushes through
Like a train going by
You're old enough to put
Your hand to the plough
But you'll never be as young
As you are right now
Like me

I really love you
I really love you

Hush my girls, now don't be afraid
God's in control and his plans are well made
Abraham would give his son away
But the ram in the thicket
It quenched his fate
In the fires of mercy

In the fires of mercy
