  1. I'm In Control

From the recording Mercywheel - 1999

"Often, humans know a lot less than they give themselves credit for." (original liner notes)

Some cool, Beatle-y chords here and there.  A cool guitar break in the middle.  Some interesting little backwards sounds.  Some nice acoustic guitar elements.

Plus....... some kick ass brass parts at the end.

And those final electric guitar leads?  In harmonic stereo?  Hell yeah.

PS - The 'false start' is a direct steal from The White Album (Revolution 1). Purely for fun.

Lyrics

'I'm in control', he thought
And he smiled
Just before he crashed into a pole
Entering a world as black as pitch
And coal

'She's in control', they said
And they smiled
Moments before reason's blinding flash
As she contemplated
Life before her smash

Why do we do
The things we do?
Without a safety net
If only we knew
Some endings are far
From counterfeit now

'I'm in control', God spoke
To me
As I wrested with him
Trying to change his words
Attempting to pretend
I had not heard a word

'We're in control', the humans cried
And they lied
Just before they ran
From gathering cloud
Trembling bipeds
They once stood so proud
Blowing wind compels a few
To touch the shroud

Why do we do
The things we do?
Without a safety net
If only we knew
Some endings are far
From counterfeit now

If someone told you
All that they now know
About the God-sized void
In their soul
Could you relate?
Would you fill in the hole?
