Jason Rubero: Music

Who I Am (2006)

(Jason Rubero)
January 15, 2010

Fairly mainstream for me, but I'm happy with all the details I put in, like the melodic bass melody (and counter melody) in the last verse and the awesome electric guitar sound I got in the middle section.

I also like the counter melody of the celeste (bells) in the middle, the 'big' backing vocals at the end, and the sad-yet-poetic lyrics.

Not a bad production all around... I'm proud of it.  :-)

Ten hours at work today

What do I do?  (I wish I knew)

Everyone seems to know but me

But I’ve been so busy making a living that I forgot to live

And what would I give?

To find something besides

The coal in these mines

I’m running out of hours…

Analee, I just want to be who I am – who I am

And what about our boy?

What if his track’s already set like mine?

It would be so fine

If he never had to go

Down in that hole

Where dreams disappear

He needs a map out of here

He needs release, he needs direction

Every little dream needs some protection…

Analee, I just want to be who I am

Who I am

And all the while,

Something like regret

Thickens like tar

And falls to the bottom

Of this life that I just realized is mine

And I’m running out of time...

Ann, you know I want the best for us

But how can I go on?

When darkness is my dawn

And my day is just weak lamplight?

I know I’ve got to fight

But the way I feel today

Where there’s a will there’s just no way

I know I’ve got to swallow my pride

But I’m choking on it, deep inside…

Analee, I just want to be who I am – who I am

Analee, I just want to be who I am – who I am
