Jason Rubero: Music

Borrow (2009)

(Jason Rubero)

One of my favorite, and most-inspired 'atmosphere' songs yet.  I love all the glitchy sounds and the trippy, slow-motion vibe on this one!

The song is bitter.  It's sad.  Sad-as-hell.

Such is life.

Other things I like are the strings, the backwards sounds, the bass line, the melotron flutes, and the HUGE middle eight.  I rarely sing in falsetto, but this time it really paid off in the middle section.... and - believe it or not - I sang that part IN ONE TAKE.  *pats self on back*  :-)

Well I'm a lover
A real undercover mother
I'm on the outside looking in
I bear the weight

And I say...
That I'm in trouble
Double pure watched me trip and stumble
And it's bitter
On my way

What else can I borrow
Beg or steal?

Time's getting on
And I came up short
When I wanted to belong
Never mind, another time
And I miss you
Everyday

I'm here dreaming
Sitting pretty while screaming
Hoping for deliverance
From my crimes against reason
Is there a way?
Tell me is there a way-----?

Sugar can you come down?
Sugar can you shut up?
Sugar are you in town?
Sugar are you stuck up?

I'm speechless, I'm dumb, sitting still on the run
As much as you allow it I move forward and then some
Is it ok?
That I'm farther away
I'm farther away
I'm getting farther away
I'm 'Father Away'
I'm 'Father Away'

What else can I borrow
Beg or steal?

What else can I borrow
Beg or steal?
