Jason Rubero: Music

White Man Runs Him (outtake)

(Jason Rubero)
July 10, 2000

An outake from the Skyhouse and Scarlet sessions.  Never released or even heard by another person... until now.  Yes folks, this classifies as RARE.  :-)

Actually, despite some annoyingly nasal-sounding vocals and guitar-tuning imperfections, I'm fairly proud of this tune - especially the lyrics.  I've leave the interpretation of such up to each listener.

After hearing this song for the first time in about 7 years, here are the other things I like:

- the use of piano (low and high notes)

- the various acoustic guitar sounds

- the seasoning provided by the organ

- the ending chord (which doesn't resolve)

White Man Runs You

You colorful amputee

All pride and phantom pain

And my apologies.... for the operation

White Man Runs You

And sends you stumbling to your grave

All wingspan under weight of shame

And the insecurity.... of the straight-jacket nation they left behind

And the misery of all they taught you while

Your culture went down

Down in flames

To my shame

White Man Runs Him

And time does not reveal

How noble heart bears the weight and strain

And I wish healing... for all your reservations I softly tread

And the misery of all they taught you while

Your culture went down

Down, down, down

In flames

In flames
